How to Buy Hair Extensions
Next, to make sure you get the best hair extensions for your relaxed hair, follow these guidelines:
- Look for keywords:
- Yaki Straight
- Human hair
- Natural Black/1B color
- Heat Safe
- No tangling/shedding
- Do NOT buy anything that says “silky straight”. This texture will not be textured enough to match your hair.
- Choose the best length for you (I prefer 18 inches)
- If you want to color the extensions, make sure you can color match
How to Install Hair Extensions
At this point, you’ve bought your hair extensions, now you need to install them. Here’s the best guide to on the perfect placement of your clip-ins!
For a Natural Look
Your hair extension set will come with 7-8 pieces. To achieve a natural look, minimize the pieces used to 4-5 to prevent a heavy look. Here’s how I achieve a natural look:
- Section out hair from the nape of your neck about two inches thick. Place a piece with two combs directly under the part you have made.
- Part your hair straight across the back of your head from the top of your ears. Place a piece with three combs under this part.
- Part your hair diagonally from the arch of your eyebrows to the crown of your head. Place a piece with two combs under the part.
- Part your hair how you would like it styled (middle part or side part).
For a Full Look
I like to use all the pieces in the hair extension set for a full look when I want more drama. If you’re going for this option, take care to avoid the “wiggy” look.
- Section out hair from the nape of your neck about two inches thick. Place a piece with two combs directly under the part you have made.
- Part your hair straight across the back of your head from the middle of your ears. Place a piece with three combs under this part.

- Part your hair straight across the back of your head from your temples. Place a piece with four combs under this part.
- Part your hair diagonally from the arch of your eyebrows to the crown of your head. Place a piece with two combs under the part.

How to Care for Hair Extensions
Here are Nine Avenue’s top tips to maintain the longevity of your hair extensions.
Do:
- Wash your extensions every 2-3 weeks with a mild shampoo
- Let hair extensions sit with conditioner for at least 15 minutes
- Let extensions air dry
- Comb them throughout the day to avoid tangles and shedding
- Store them properly
Don’t:
- Don’t apply any product to dry hair extensions (not even heat protectant!)
- Don’t wash them too often to avoid dryness
- Don’t excessively heat style them to avoid shedding
- Sleep in them (they’ll tangle, and they’re very uncomfortable to sleep in!)
Conclusion
Hair extensions can be a game-changer when it comes to transforming your hair. They can give you the length, volume, and thickness you desire, whether you have short or thin relaxed hair, or simply want to change up your look.
Throughout this blog post, we’ve discussed the best hair extensions available and the factors to consider when choosing the best hair extensions for you.
It’s important to remember that while hair extensions can be a great way to enhance your hair, they also require proper care and maintenance. Regular brushing, washing, and conditioning are essential to keep your extensions looking and feeling their best.
In addition, it’s crucial to choose high-quality hair extensions that are made from real human hair, as these will look and feel the most natural. Investing in good quality hair extensions may cost more upfront, but in the long run, they will be worth it as they will last longer and look better.
Overall, hair extensions can be a fun and exciting way to change up your hairstyle, but it’s important to do your research and choose the best option for your hair type, lifestyle, and budget. With the right care and attention, your hair extensions can help you achieve the hair of your dreams.
